TRI-CITY TOPS IN EMPLOYEE
FLU VACCINATION RATES
WOUND CARE CENTER SELECTED AS
FIRST TRAINING CENTER IN THE NATION
For the second year in a row, Tri-City
Medical Center has received a
Silver Recognition Award from
Joint Commission Resources for its
participation in the Flu Vaccination
Challenge, a national program to
increase flu vaccination rates among
healthcare workers.
The Silver Recognition Award
is given to organizations that have
achieved an 85 to 94 percent level
of compliance in vaccination of their
employees. The Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) and The
Joint Commission have targeted a 90
percent or higher influenza vaccination
rate for healthcare employees by 2020.
Tri-City’s Chief Nurse Executive
Sharon Schultz said flu vaccinations
are part of the hospital’s patient
safety program.

Tri-City Medical Center also
received a Silver Recognition
Award last year.
Education and implementation
of a policy requiring nonvaccinated
employees to wear a surgical mask are
credited with helping Tri-City Medical
Center achieve the highest influenza
vaccination rates in the county.
According to the CDC, an annual
flu vaccination is the most effective
method for preventing flu virus
infection and its complications.

Commission, launched the Flu
Vaccination Challenge during the
2008–2009 flu season.

All those factors played a key
role in Organogenesis’ selection of
Tri-City as the first Preceptor and
Mentor Training Center in the United
States. Organogenesis is recognized
as the world leader in regenerative
medicine, specializing in bio-active
wound healing and oral regeneration.

educate healthcare professionals
from around the country in the field
of wound care,” said Tracy Younger,
director of outpatient ambulatory
care at the Center for Wound Care &
Hyperbaric Medicine.
The preceptor program is intended
to provide an educational setting
for Organogenesis employees and
healthcare professionals dedicated
to learning advanced wound care.
The focus will be on the science of
wound healing and adherence to
evidence-based clinical pathways with
a multidisciplinary team approach.
